Commissions
A Painting Made for You
Every plant tells a story — a grandmother's garden rose, a wedding bouquet preserved forever, a rare orchid from a once-in-a-lifetime journey. I translate these stories into botanical watercolours of the highest calibre.
Each commission is a unique work of art: painted by hand over weeks, with scientifically precise detail and museum-grade materials that will last for generations. No prints, no reproductions — only the original.

About the artist →The Process
From your vision to a finished painting — every commission follows a careful, transparent process.
Conversation
Tell me about your plant and its story. We discuss size, composition, and timeline — no commitment, no pressure.
Reference & Sketches
I study the plant from life or high-quality reference photos. Pencil sketches explore composition until we find the perfect arrangement.
Colour Studies
Before the final painting begins, I mix and test every pigment — matching the exact hues of petals, leaves, and stems. Each painting uses a unique, hand-mixed palette.
The Painting
Layer by layer, the watercolour takes shape on archival cotton paper with lightfast, artist-grade pigments. I share progress updates so you can follow the journey.
Delivery
Your finished painting arrives with a signed certificate of authenticity and a pigment card documenting every colour used. Worldwide shipping, museum-quality packaging.

Common Questions
How long does a commission take?
A small format (up to A5) typically takes 4–8 weeks from confirmed sketch to delivery. Larger or more complex works may take 8–16 weeks. I'll give you a realistic timeline before we begin.
Do I need to provide a live plant?
Ideally, yes — painting from life produces the most nuanced results. However, I also work from high-quality reference photos. We'll discuss the best approach for your specific plant.
What materials do you use?
I work exclusively with artist-grade, lightfast watercolour pigments on archival 100% cotton paper (300gsm+). These materials are chosen for permanence — your painting will look the same in 100 years as the day it was finished.
What sizes are available?
I paint from small studies (postcard size) up to large statement pieces. The most popular commission sizes range from A5 to A3. We'll determine the ideal size together based on the subject and your intended display.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes — worldwide shipping is included in the price. Each painting is professionally packaged with acid-free materials and shipped fully insured.
Can I request a specific composition or style?
Absolutely. We discuss everything before painting begins — background colour, composition, level of detail, whether to include buds, roots, or cross-sections. The sketch phase ensures you're happy before any paint touches paper.
What about framing?
The painting is delivered unframed to allow you the freedom of choosing a frame that suits your space. I'm happy to provide detailed framing specifications — paper size, mount dimensions, glass type — and tips for choosing the right framer.
How does payment work?
A 50% deposit is due when the sketch is approved. The remaining 50% is invoiced upon completion, before shipping. Payment via bank transfer or credit card.
Can I see work-in-progress images?
Absolutely. I share progress photos at key stages — after the sketch, during the early washes, and as details come together. You'll always know how your painting is developing.
What if I'm not happy with the result?
I work closely with you throughout the process. Revisions at the sketch stage are included — this is where we refine composition, proportions, and details until you're fully satisfied. Once painting begins, minor adjustments are possible; major changes may incur additional cost.
Can you paint a plant that is no longer alive or out of season?
Yes. I can work from detailed photographs, herbarium specimens, or dried material. For seasonal plants, we can also schedule the commission to coincide with the blooming period for the best possible reference.
How do I care for the finished painting?
Display away from direct sunlight and high humidity. I use exclusively lightfast pigments and archival cotton paper — with proper care, your painting will retain its vibrancy for generations. A UV-protective glass frame is recommended for long-term display.
How far in advance should I book?
I recommend reaching out 2–3 months ahead, or earlier for large or complex pieces. My studio calendar fills up, especially before the holiday season. The sooner we begin the conversation, the more flexibility we have with timing.
Can a commission be a gift?
Yes — botanical commissions make deeply personal gifts. I can ship directly to the recipient with special packaging. If you'd like the recipient to choose their own subject, I also offer gift vouchers.
